Author’s Notes & Legal Stuff

This is a story that’s been running around in my head for quite some time, years even. It’s undergone a few changes in that time, mostly to fit in with the changing situations in the Sonic comic books. It’s quite voluminous, with a cast of thousands (well, dozens maybe) and it’s serialised, with just about every instalment flowing into the next. Though just about everybody makes an appearance (the Sega and comic book characters anyway, I’ve only seen a few episodes of the Saturday morning cartoon and don’t have much of a grasp on those characters), with a couple of my own (secondary characters in the same vein as the Freedom Fighters and the Chaotix), it mostly focuses on the ‘main’ characters of Sonic, Knuckles and Tails and the older two’s leading ladies, Sally and Julie-Su (though, being a Knuckles fan, more on the dreadlocked duo).

I’m trying not to mess too much with the Archie continuity. I won’t be pairing off any of their characters (unless they do), or anything like that. If they introduce new, somewhat important characters (such as Remington’s girlfriend, Komi-Ko), I’ll probably work them in (somehow). It probably works best to think of this universe as one of those multiple, interdemensional highway kind of places, just a teeny little bit removed from Mobius Prime.

The characters may appear a little bit different. I’ve heard it said that you should write what you know, and as I have a preference for Knuckles, the Islanders will be more ‘Australian’ in their speech patterns and overall attitude (That’s normal Australian, we don’t all sound like Crocodile Dundee. The closest example I can think of is Dragonball Z’s pretty-boy, Zarbon, and even he’s a bit ‘Ocker’.). The Knothole residents will retain their more ‘American’ style. There will be an approximate 15-hour time difference between the two (just like there is between the Australian East Coast and the US East Coast), with the Island being ahead. The Island will also be located in the Southern Hemisphere, with Knothole in the Northern Hemisphere, so seasons will be opposite as well. And Knuckles will display some more ‘real’ echidna attributes.

Some readers (assuming I get some) may not like some of the things I’ve got planned (I’ve been told that I’m quite wicked). Most of the major players are going to ‘go through the wringer’ so to speak (that is, some pretty harrowing things are going to happen), but, rest assured, that everything will turn out okay in the end.

Now for the legal stuff.

Barring a few exceptions, these characters belong to Sega, Archie Comics and/or DIC, and remain their property. This is a fanfic, not designed for any type of financial gain, but merely for the entertainment of anyone who cares to read it (and because I get a kick out of writing it). The situations, plot and any characters that do not belong to those mentioned above, are mine however (so please don’t mess with them).
